Бању Луку је 26. и 27. октобра 1969. године погодио разоран земљотрес, који је однио 17 људских живота, а град преселио на ливаде, под шаторе и у бараке. Тада је Бања Лука имала 75 000 становника и преко 11 000 станова, махом порушених.
