se koristili su 1.6 litara 2T, 1.8 litara 3T i 1S, i 2.0 litara 18R-G.
Septembra 1982, prva Celica turbo je predstavljena u Japanu. GT-T je
imala 1.8 litara 3T-GTE motor. Da bi zadovoljili FISA standarde za
Group B Rally Car da bi učestvovali na World Rally Championship (WRC),
200 komada Celica GT-TS je napravljeno.

generacija četvrta generacija je dobila pogon na prednje točkove.
Toyota je 1986 predstavila i model GT-Four (ST165) sa pogonom na sve
točkove. GT-S 2.0 L motor proizvodi 190 hp (142 kW) (3S-GTE motor) i
GT-Four je odmah zauzela mesto kao oficijalno toyotino reli vozilo.

motosportu je svakako donela upravo peta generacija 1990 Carlos Sainz
je osvojio prvu WRC titulu za toyotu, i 1992 Carlos Sainz ponovo osvaja
WRC titulu, 1993 Juha Kankkunen osvaja novu titulu WRC i Tri titule u
WRC-u govore dosta o petoj generaciji toyota je napravila limitiranu
verciju Carlos Sainz od 5000 primeraka u koji su ugrađivali 3S-GTE
motor kao i pogon na sve točkove 3S-GTE je proizvodio 208 HP.
